|Indonesia voices security concerns ahead of Corby verdict
Indonesia has asked Australian police to boost security at Golden Goose Outlet its diplomatic and consular missions ahead of next week's verdict in the drugs trial of a young Queensland woman in Bali.
The verdict in the trial of Schapelle Corby, a 27-year-old beauty therapist, is due on May 27.
The case has whipped up a media frenzy in Australia and resulted in a series of threats against Indonesian missions.
Corby faces life in jail if convicted of smuggling 4.1 kilograms of marijuana into Bali in 2004.
She says the drugs were planted in her bags.
"This morning I spoke with [Australian Federal Police Commissioner] Mick Keelty from the AFP and the AFP will provide further protection to counter all sorts of threats," Indonesian police chief Da'i Bachtiar said.
The Indonesian Embassy in Canberra said on Tuesday its diplomats and consular officials around Australia had received threats by mail and email about the Corby case.
The Federal Government has written to the Bali court to support Corby's defence by outlining allegations against baggage handlers at Sydney Airport.
But Foreign Minister Alexander Downer https://www.goldengooseshoesit.com/ has said the threats against Indonesian diplomats were counter-productive and would not help Corby.
This afternoon, a spokesman for Foreign Affairs Minister Alexander Downer said security at Indonesian diplomatic missions have already been stepped up in response to the recent threats.
But the Government will also keep a constant watch on security issues.
