ATHENS， May 28 (Xinhua) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin closed a two-day working visit in Greece on Saturday with a visit to the autonomous Orthodox Christian monastic sanctuary of Mount Athos to mark the 1，000-year presence of Russian monks in the northern Greek peninsula.
Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos， who had received him also in Athens on Friday at the start of talks aimed to boost bilateral cooperation， welcomed him at Karyes， the administrative center of the all- male monastic community， along with representatives of the 20 monasteries of Athos.
""A great and significant work on moral values is being done here，"" the Russian leader commented after a mass held in his honor， Greek national news agency AMNA reported.
""Humanism， solidarity， justice and peace"" are the values promoted， Pavlopoulos said， as abbots called on the world leaders to work closer and harder to restore peace across the world.
In his second visit to the ""Holy Mountain""， Putin reached the Saint Panteleimon monastery which hosts about 100 Russian， Ukrainian and other Russian- speaking monks to celebrate the millennial anniversary of the first Russian settlement in the peninsula.
Patriarch Kirill of Moscow， the head of the Russian Orthodox Christian Church， who arrived on Friday， also attended the celebrations.
The Russian leader visited the monastery also in 2005 during his previous visit to Greece.
About 1，800 monks are living today in the rocky 335 square kilometers peninsula， according to the latest 2011 census.
Male pilgrims， including non Orthodox Christians， can visit upon invitation， while women are barred from approaching the area for 1，000 years under a decree issued by then Byzantine Emperor Constantine Monomachos who established the sanctuary.
The prohibition on females' entry， which also applies to female animals， was introduced as a way to safeguard celibacy.
Under the Orthodox Christian Church tradition the reason behind the ban is that Athos is considered to be ""the garden of Virgin Mary"" and she should be the only one representing women on the peninsula.
According to the tradition， Christ's mother landed on Athos during a trip and impressed by the beauty of the landscape asked that this will be her garden.
Throughout the centuries there have been only a dozen cases of trespassing by women recorded in several times by females who were disguised as men.
SEOUL Authentic Takkarist McKinley Jersey , Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's unification ministry said Monday that a humanitarian aid to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) should be treated separately from sanctions and pressure, reiterating its earlier position.
Unification Ministry spokesman Baek Tae-hyun told a press briefing that the government's basic stance was to keep the humanitarian aid to the vulnerable group of people in the DPRK, such as infants and pregnant women, regardless of political situations.
The spokesman said the Moon Jae-in government's basic stance was not different from the international society's as well as the ones held by former South Korean governments.
Tensions escalated on the Korean Peninsula after the DPRK's test last Friday of an intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM).
It followed Pyongyang's sixth nuclear test on Sept. 3, which was believed to have been the most powerful one ever conducted by the country.
The UN Security Council this month unanimously adopted a new resolution toughening sanctions on the DPRK, which curtails the country's oil imports, bans all of its textile exports and prohibits further work permits abroad for DPRK workers.

ABUJA, Feb. 29 (Xinhua) -- Football authorities in Nigeria on Monday said they have formally received and acknowledged the decision of Sunday Oliseh, former head coach of the country's senior national soccer team, to quit his job.
Oliseh, last Friday, announced his resignation, citing breach of contract including non-payment of salaries by his employers, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), responsible for his decision.
But acknowledging the receipt of his resignation letter via email on Monday, the local football governing body said it bore no grudges against the former head coach of the Super Eagles.
"The Executive Board of the NFF has resolved to accept his resignation and has responsibly gone ahead to accept the recommendation of the technical committee in replacing him temporarily with competent coaches," Nigerian FA said via a statement issued in Abuja.
Before his resignation on Friday, Nigeria was hoping on Oliseh to lead the Super Eagles to a two-leg African Cup of Nations qualifier next month.
"We find it strange though that, after complaints of non-payment, Oliseh waited to receive moneies owed him before resigning. Two days before his resignation, he had passionately appealed that we unite as one force to fight the battle on the football field with the Egyptian national team. We had no idea he was selling a dummy," the FA added.
In a swift move, Nigeria on Friday named former player Samson Siasia as interim head coach of the Super Eagles.
